If left untreated, system clutter can deteriorate PC performance resulting in a slow computer. A cluttered registry, for example, can slow Windows to a crawl. You can cleanup junk and redundant files frequently to regain hard drive space and improve the speed of a slow computer. Or uninstall problematic programs that are no longer in use. There are many computer support software’s like Registry cleaner, Registry Mechanic, PC cleaner, Registry Booster that claim to do registry repair and perform PC repair to breathe new life into your computer.

But at the same time you need to be smart enough to find and get a wise registry cleaner that can actually clean up and fix registry. The tasks done by registry cleaners can be performed manually on a computer running slow. However, you can also be your own PC Doctor by following these few simple steps:

Tips to Speed up your slow computer in few minutes:

1. Don’t switch off your computer directly. This is the most common problem that can damage your system, hard-drive or lead to a system crash. It’s best to follow the proper shutdown process every time and keep your system and registry healthy.

2. Scattered data or scattered files are also a reason for slow computer. We recommend a defrag of your hard drive at least once a month.

3. Apart from disk defragmentation, disk cleanup is equally important. Disk clean up is an excellent system cleaner tool which can be used weekly. This will delete all your unused temporary files that consume your valuable disk space and resources.

4. Set your paging files to 1 and 1/2 times the amount of RAM (memory) you have installed on your PC. If you have 2 GB or more of memory installed just turn off you paging files altogether. To check these settings right click on my computer icon and click properties. Then click the advanced tab, select performance settings and then the advanced tab to modify the virtual memory size.

5. Cleanup and delete temporary internet files and cookies. This can easily be done every few days by clearing browser History and deleting temporary and cookie files from “temp” folder.

6. Delete any programs you don't use from your computer via the control panel/add remove utility. Never delete the shortcuts and directory files of the installed software directly from its installed location.

7. Turn off any services that are unnecessary in the services manager which is located at your control panel/administrative tools/services. There are some great videos available showing how to clean my PC.

8. Manage your startup file by going to start/run and type ‘msconfig’ (without quotes) and then click on the startup tab. Stopping a program from running on startup does not remove it. This will just stop the program from starting up automatically each time the computer reboots. The fewer the number of programs loading on startup, excluding essential windows services, the better is your startup speed.

9. Update your drivers. You can check your computer’s manufacturer’s website search for updated drivers for your hardware. You can also use a driver update tool to automate this process.

10. Don’t overload your desktop with icons. Delete all unused icons and files. Move your data from Desktop to your storage disk drive.

11. Customize your windows according to your requirements. Disable all the windows features that you don’t require from control panel add/remove utility then following the “Turn on Windows features ON/OFF” option.

12. Keeping your data in zipped files will also help you to save storage space and increase your system performance.
